Ms. Dayonna Queen is a senior attending the University of Hartford in West Hartford, CT, working to complete her double major in sociology and criminal justice. She has ambitious goals of higher education, criminology and giving back to her community. She enters her final year of college seeking to focus on tactical knowledge and experience that will support her future career after graduating in 2023.
How Awardee plans to give back to the SW community?
Ms. Queen plans to give back to the community by leveraging her degree in sociology and criminal justice as a crime analyst or intelligence analyst that uses data to interpret “hot spots” for serious criminal activity to enable community members to better protect themselves and their loved ones from hazardous criminal activity.

Background on Awardee:
A 3-time recipient of the Stadium District Scholarship Fund, Ms. CrutchField is an aspiring veterinarian completing her senior year of her undergraduate at University of Maryland Eastern Shore. She will utilize her scholarship to support her remaining undergraduate classes as she prepares for veterinary school.
How Awardee plans to give back to the SW community?
Ms. CrutchField plans to give back to the community by volunteering at the local humane society so she can gain exposure to what shelter medicine may look like as she prepares for a future career and also to give back to local pets in the community. She is also planning to support the Southwest Neighborhood Assembly (SWNA) education task force. She is greatly appreciative for the tremendous amount of support from the organization and plans to take part in providing that same support to younger students..

Anika is attending Old Dominion University to earn her Bachelor of Science in Human Services. The program is focused on preparing students for entry level positions in a wide variety of community services settings. Anika is the first in her family to attend college. Congrats to her for this big accomplishment

Anika is excited to leverage her education to make a difference in the community, focusing on young people to help them overcome hurt, loss and isolation.

Ms. CrutchField is an aspiring veterinarian. She will utilize her scholarship to support classes at University of Maryland Eastern Shore where she is taking prerequisite classes to support her goal of going to veterinary school
How Awardee plans to give back to the SW community?
Ms. CrutchField plans to give back to the community by sharing her experiences and knowledge with youth in SW. She will be working to help them understand how to build credit and assess the pros and cons of student loans. She plans to host small a seminar about financial literacy for teens going to college

Ms. CrutchField is assisting three students with their college applications and will work with them to identify resources that will prepare them for their transition to college

Ms. Brown is attending Elizabeth City State University with the goal of pursuing a career in criminology. She hopes to be a guidance counselor and mentor for adolescents
How Awardee plans to give back to the SW community?
Ms. Brown is hosting youth seminars in the Spring of 2019 to inform youth in SW DC about how to be successful in life and gain confidence
